Funding boost announced at opening of self-driving test facility

Culham Science Centre (Oxfordshire) has officially opened its world-leading facility for the testing of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) and has revealed a further £780,000 of funding secured by OxLEP via the government’s Local Growth Fund to expand its vehicle test capabilities across site.

Record Breaking Cyclists at Culham Science Centre

On the day that Oxfordshire hosted the OVO Energy Women’s Tour professional cycle race, 200 cyclists representing 22 companies based at Culham Science Centre braved the British weather to rack-up 2,500 miles for Bike to Work Day (Wednesday 12 June 2019) an annual event organised by the centre to encourage sustainable travel in support of national Bike Week 2019.

New OAS Training Facility Advancing at Culham Science Centre

Construction of the new Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) apprentice training facility is advancing rapidly with structural steelwork and the roof of the 3,800 square metre training workshops already up. The new building will be able to accommodate up to 350 apprentices, with industry-standard equipment covering a wide range of engineering and technology disciplines.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has welcomed the £14 million investment in autonomous vehicle company Oxbotica, which uses its Culham Science Centre site as a testing base. Oxbotica this week announced the investment, which it will use to accelerate its growth as it develops the software behind autonomous systems in sectors including aerospace, automotive, construction, logistics and mining.
